Paris 2012 Gets Boost From Government

French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin has signed an agreement for 2.5 billion euros of state money to help finance Paris’ bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

He said Tuesday, “we have entered a sort of world championship based on a country’s appeal”.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) likes all bid cities to have the full support of the public authorities so this commitment by the French government will help boost the Paris’ 2012 bid.

According to Sports Minister Jean-Francois Lamour, the proposed Paris budget encompasses two billion euros for organizing the Games and a further five billion euros on building projects. He added, “the state is guaranteeing the organization, the smooth running of the Games”.
