The organizing body for the Athens 2004 Games has postponed the swimming test event for the Games for four weeks from April to May, because of problems with erecting a roof over the main pool at the Olympic aquatic centre.
The postponement is the first time that a test event for the Games has been delayed because a venue will not be ready for competition.
A Greek sports official said, “the roof for the swimming pool was a late addition to a refurbishment project. It wasn’t included in the original project”.
Also an international canoe competition at a new Olympic venue was postponed so work could continue at the site. The competition had been planned for May 7-9.
The World Cup One canoe meet, which is not an Olympic test event, was rescheduled to June 4-6.
Meanwhile, because of problems with the Regatta course in Schinias, the Hellenic Canoe-Kayak Federation has postponed the lst ICF World Cup Flatwater Racing from May 7th to 9th to June 4th to 6th.
