Fireworks To Celebrate New Year And Paris 2012 Olympic Bid

Paris will celebrate the New Year and its bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games with a spectacular fireworks display emanating from the Jardin des Tuileries and the Grande Roue – occasionally installed on the Place de la Concorde.

The Grande Roue will be adorned with the words “Paris 2012” to promote Paris’ Olympic bid.

The fireworks display will begin at 23.50 hours, will be eight minutes in duration and use one ton of fireworks material – twice the amount traditionally used during the fireworks celebration on Bastille Day, which lasts 30 minutes.

According to a press release the fireworks will be displayed in an accelerated rhythm and some of the projectiles will reach a height of about 150 metres.
