Beijing 2008 Announces Olympic Slogan Search

Beijing 2008 announced Monday that organizers are looking for a new Olympic slogan that will help present the “exciting image” of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games to an expected “global audience”.

Zhang Ming, deputy director of BOCOG’s Culture and Ceremonies Department, told a press conference “the slogan, in both Chinese and English, should be easy to read and remember, and can be understood and shared by people from different cultures”.

Zhang added, “the slogan will be unveiled in the first half of 2005. A series of promotional activities have also been planned to follow up”.

Submissions can be mailed to BOCOG’s Culture and Ceremonies Department or sent via e-mail to wenhua@beijing-olympic.org.cn by the January 31, 2005 deadline.

Winners will not receive prize money but honorary certificates will be available.

“New Beijing, Great Olympics” was the slogan used by Beijing’s 2008 bid but BOCOG hopes a new slogan can reflect the three concepts of the 2008 Games which are “Green Olympics”, “High-tech Olympics” and “People’s Olympics”, and the universal values of the Olympic Movement such as peace, unity, friendship, participations, inspiration, dedication, joy and fair play.
