Dubai considers Youth Olympic Games bid

According to a report in ArabianBusiness.com, the UAE’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) is considering a bid for the Youth Olympic Games to help prepare for a future Olympic bid.

Dubai officials stepped back from a possible 2020 Olympic Games bid last month, opting to pursue the 2024 Games instead. Due to the unbearably hot summer climate, officials also hope to shift those summer Games dates to winter instead.

But in order to “rehearse” for these Games, the secretary general of the NOC Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Hussain said that his organization was considering hosting the Youth Olympic Games or the Asian Games. No specific years were mentioned.

The deadline to bid for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games is March 1, 2012 – and the election to host the 2024 Olympic Games will likely be in 2017. It would be unusual for a city already organizing one Olympic Games to bid for another future Games.
