Tampa Next On USOC Evaluation Tour

The USOC evaluation team arrives in Tampa Thursday night to assess the city’s 2012 Olympic bid.

The Florida 2012 bid will have events in Tampa, as well as St. Petersburg and the Orlando area.

Florida 2012 president Ed Turanchik said, “we are preparing for the most important visit that this city will ever have by a group of people. This is a gargantuan undertaking, and we have to do extraordinarily well over the next 72 hours”.

The USOC will hear plans for everything from transportation and housing to general and sports infrastructure before spending much of Friday afternoon and Saturday visiting proposed competition venues along Interstate 4 from the Tampa-St. Petersburg area to Orlando, with stops at Plant City and Lakeland.

Tallahassee Mayor Scott Maddox said, “it affects more than just the 1-4 corridor. It affects all of Florida”.
