Pound Ponders IOC Presidency

Former IOC vice president Dick Pound, a lawyer from Montreal, told the Toronto Star he still hasn’t decided if he’ll seek the IOC Presidency. Pound’s term as vice president expired during the Sydney Olympics. He said he’ll make up his mind by the end of the year.

It’s now considered a two-way race between Pound and IOC executive member Jacques Rogge of Belgium.

Pound said if he decides to run he’ll stress his experience. He has been an IOC member since 1978.

Pound said “(I have) done everything. A lot of the most important relationships we have are mine, TV, sponsors, the Internet. I have the legal framework and I’ve served on two Olympic organizing committees”.

Pound is widely regarded as one of the most powerful and brightest members of the IOC.
