IOC President Calls Germany’s 2012 Bid “Lucky”

Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), called Germany’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games “lucky” because of the enthusiasm and positive support of the five cities bidding to become the German candidate.

Speaking on info radio Berlin Brandenburg he criticized the large expenditure of the applicant cities. He said “we would have gladly a situation where so much money was not spent”.

He called Germany “a rich country”. You are a politically sturdy country, you have much experience with the sport, you proved that you can organize such large events”.

Rogge said he didn’t have a problem with the fact that Berlin, the capital city of Germany, was not one of the five bid cities.

He added that he heard of tensions between the five bid cities and said it was completely inevitable.

The ethics commission of the IOC will examine the selection and application procedure as soon as a German candidate city is selected.

A decision on the German 2012 bid city will be announced April 12.
