Hong Kong To Host 2009 East Asian Games

Hong Kong won the right to host the 2009 East Asian Games, beating its rival Taipei. The decision was announced Monday at the executive board meeting of the East Asian Games Association held in Macau Monday.

Hong Kong received the majority of votes among the eight members of EAGA’s executive board, which includes China, North Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Macau, Mongolia and Taipei.

Also at the meeting members reached a consensus that the fourth East Asian Games will be staged from Oct. 29 to Nov. 6, 2005, in Macau, and will include 17 sports and 690 medals.
