German Cities Compete To Become German 2012 Candidate

Leipzig 2012 announced how the city plans to make the 2012 Summer Olympic Games environmentally friendly at a crowded meeting Tuesday.

At the site of the future Olympic Village steps will be taken to clean polluted water and contaminated soil. Green areas will be created around the Olympic Village. Several plans and sports facilities have been examined.

In addition to the environment there was also a discussion on transportation and flood prevention.

Meanwhile in Stuttgart a giant poster promoting the city’s 2012 bid has been erected on three sides of Stuttgart city hall. The poster is nearly 700 square metres.

A second poster is to be erected Friday at the SI Centrum building.

Raimund Grundler, managing director of Stuttgart’s 2012 bid, said he is pleased with the support the bid is getting from the business community, just three weeks before the German candidate is selected. He said it shows that the business community is standing behind Stuttgart’s bid.

The German candidate for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games will be selected on April 12.
