International Olympic Committee (IOC) officials have warned Turin 2006 that plans to award medals in a central square of Turin instead of at race venues could damage athletes’ performances.
Inspectors told organizers to reconsider their plans because the distance skiers had to cover to receive them and drive back into the mountains could exhaust them before other races.
The city, site of events including ice skating and ice hockey, is dozens of kilometres away from the site of the skiing venue.
