Turin 2006 Mascots Criticized

Neve and Gliz will have to be thick-skinned during their reign as mascots for the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games if they want to survive. The unfortunate mascots, which represent a ball of snow and a block of ice, have been described respectively as a “big aspirin for a head” and having a head like “a Chiclet with all the colour sucked off” by SportsBusiness Journal.

The magazine says, “Let the IOC…take charge and commission the design of one Olympic mascot for the Summer Games and one for the Winter Games. No crudely rendered ping-pong-ball heads or computer-generated whatchamacallits. Do it once, and do it right. Then, let the organizing committees personalize the mascot for their Games”.
