PyeongChang has unveiled the opening of two freestyle ski venues, an aerial ski jump and a mogul run at the PyeongChang ski area of Phoenix Park where freestyle ski events would be held, should the city win its bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. The sites opened on December 29, much earlier than anticipated.
The two international class, freestyle ski competition sites, built at the regulation 37 and 27 degrees respectively, will be used when PyeongChang hosts the 2007 Freestyle World Cup in February 2007.
Also, Phoenix Park has carved out seven new ski runs by opening “Phoenix Ridge” whose slopes descend from a 915-metre-high summit complementing the 14 existing runs from Mont Blanc.
The bid committee’s plans call for using six existing competition venues to their full capacity, and building four new ones already under construction.
