Sochi 2014 Cultural Program Unveiled

Sochi 2014 has unveiled its Cultural Olympiad program that will last for more than four years, according to a press release.

The centre of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad will be the Greater Sochi area. Events will take place in the main concert halls – the Winter Theatre, the Organ and Chamber Music Hall, the “Festivalniy” concert hall, and the Sochi Art Museum.

The Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad will include more than four years of cultural events, more than 1,000 events, more than 10,000 performers from Russia and abroad, more than 100,000 participants, more than 1,000,000 spectators expected, and more than 1,000,000,000 TV viewers projected.

Every year will be devoted to a specific theme. The year 2010 will be the Year of Cinema, 2011 will represent the Year of Theatre, 2012 will be the Year of Music and 2013 will be the Year of Museums.

During January-March 2014 the best projects from 2010-2013 will be showcased.

The Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad program includes the participation of cultural figures, movie stars and show business personalities, said the press release.

There will be special projects created for the Cultural Olympiad, as well as a series of events including concerts, plays and exhibitions.

Sochi 2014 President and CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko said, “the Cultural Olympiad creates an atmosphere of anticipations for the Games. This unprecedented event also calls for maintaining a cultural dialogue between Russia and the global community, revealing the amazing diversity of modern Russian culture to the rest of the world.

“The participants of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad represent classical, as well as avant-garde art, musicians who gather packed stadiums, and chamber performers who are distinguished representatives of all musical styles and genres”.
