Prague 2016 Unveils Bid Plans

Should Prague host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games the plan is to build three sport centres – a velodrome for cyclists in Prague or Brno; a swimming stadium that would be constructed from the existing Prague-Sutka Aquapark; and the major Olympic complex to be built on the outskirts of Prague in Litnany.

A 50-metre indoor swimming pool is to be completed by 2011 and an outdoor pool is to follow later, reports Xinhua, along with smaller children’s pools symbolically shaped as Olympic circles.

There will be yachting in Lipno, rowing and canoeing in Racice, and slalom in Troja.

The Sazka Arena, called the most modern multi-functional arena in Europe with a capacity of up to 18,000 that hosted the Ice Hockey World Championships in 2004, would become the gymnastic venue.

Tomas Petera, head of the Praha Olympijska (Olympic Prague) company, who is preparing the project said, “our aim is to enable visitors to walk through a couple of sport grounds in a while”.

The final version of the planned Olympic sport grounds is to be completed in mid-November, reports Xinhua.
