Possible Withdrawal Of Funding – Inquiry Into London 2012 Logo Footage

London 2012 Organizing Committee chairman Lord Sebastian Coe announced an official inquiry into the handling of the London 2012 Olympic Games logo and has threatened to withdraw funding for the work while considering legal action against the production company responsible for the footage that caused 30 people to suffer epileptic seizures, according to the British media.

Coe said, “we have set up an internal inquiry into exactly what happened with our supplier and the promotional footage that was shown. We are getting to the bottom of what checks were made”.

Following a meeting with members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) who are visiting London this week, Lord Coe said he had instigated an inquiry into LIVE, the communications agency that organized the logo launch event, and responsible for the promotional video that triggered the epileptic seizures. He also admitted that the committee may refuse to fund the work.

A spokesman for LIVE said Tuesday night, “we are cooperating with LOCOG in its review. It is a massively complicated project involving 170 staff and subcontractors. We are looking at the production process and the subcontractors who made the animated sequence”.

Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London said, “when you go to someone to create something you are going to use for advertising, you expect the firm or person responsible for it to run the necessary checks”.

The branding will be discussed at a commercial presentation with the IOC when Lord Coe will be questioned over the fiasco.

The Times reports the IOC signed off on the logo this year but did not see the animated film because it had not yet been made.
