Halifax 2014 Commonwealth Bid Team Wants Support From Business

The Halifax 2014 Commonwealth bid committee urged business people to help spread the message about the Games, reports the Halifax Daily News.

The bid team said the Commonwealth Games will bring significant economic benefit – 15,000 jobs province-wide, up to $450 million in salaries and wages and $2 billion in overall economic impact. It wants the people of Halifax and its business community to help spread the message.

Halifax 2014 CEO Scott Logan said, “the business community is well networked in Halifax, Nova Scotia and beyond. Amongst their contacts they can certainly ensure that everybody is full informed”.

Logan stressed the need to keep some key elements of the bid process secret for feat of giving away too much information to competitors Glasgow and Abuja.

The Halifax 2014 bid team is preparing to leave for Melbourne Australia soon for the final briefing by the Commonwealth Games Federation.

John Crace, vice president of WHW Architects, the company recently awarded the contract to develop venue plans for the Commonwealth Games, said the buildings will focus on sustainability, meaning venues will be created to not only last, but will also be environmentally, socially and economically sound.
