Mini-Olympiad Promotes Borjomi’s 2014 Winter Bid

A mini-Olympiad last weekend in Borjomi was held to support and publicize Georgia’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

The Borjomi mini-Olympiad hosted 20 youth clubs from secondary schools throughout Georgia with the club members taking part in football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and chess competitions.

Spokesman for the Georgian National Olympic Committee, Kakha Beridze, said that all national institutions, such as the government, parliament and the business sector must be united in order to attract the 2014 Winter Games. He told Georgia’s English Language daily The Messenger, “if we want to think of bringing the world to Georgia we should unite and do our best”. He reportedly believes that, for this purpose, the government should devote huge efforts to prepare sports facilities and drastically improve infrastructure in Borjomi – including transport and accommodation.
