London 2012 Venues Revealed

London 2012 has revealed plans for an 80,000-seat Olympic stadium, an aquatic centre and several other venues as part of a public consultation process.

They are all located in a 500-acre Olympic precinct to be set in 1,500 acres of parkland stretching from Hackney Marshes to the Thames.

The venue locations are being discussed this week with communities of East London in a series of public consultation meetings.

The aquatic centre will include a 50-metre pool built to Olympic specifications. Other venues include a velodrome and BMX track, a multi-sport complex comprising three indoor sports arenas, an all-weather tennis complex, a hockey complex housing two competition stadiums and one warm-up pitch located alongside the Olympic Village site near Stratford International Rail Terminal, an Olympic Village accommodating 17,000 which will generate 5,000 homes following the Games, and a media complex less than a five minute drive from the Olympic stadium which will have a 65,000 square metre single-storey international broadcast centre and a 45,000 square metre two-storey main press centre.

The plans can be viewed the next two months during a series of workshops and exhibitions for public consultation before they are submitted to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
