IOC President To Decide On Re-Election Plans In 2008

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge told the Die Welt newspaper that he will wait until after the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games to decide whether he will run for re-election in 2009.

He said, “its too early to answer. At the earliest I’ll decide immediately after Beijing. I love my work. It’s a privilege and it satisfies a passion.

“Above all, my colleagues would have to show they are behind me for another term of office. That is the ultimate test.

“But if in 2008 I still have the same passion and the circumstances are similar to today, then I will run again”.

Rogge replaced Juan Antonio Samaranch as head of the IOC in 2001.
