Following the launch of Beijing 2008’s five mascots, products bearing their images seem to be flying off the shelves.
Xinhua reports that even some Hong Kong residents joined the shopping craze for the expensive products, which are expected to bring in a total of $300 million for Olympic organizers.
Dolls were popular at a makeshift stall in front of the Shenzhen Book City, which attracted hundreds of customers Sunday morning. Most of the shoppers were buying them for their children.
There are more than 300 kinds of licensed products bearing the images of the mascots for sale. They include dolls, T-shirts, caps, pens, bags, stamps and other souvenirs.
