Sochi 2014 Bid On Track

Itar-Tass reports that Economic Development and Trade Minister German Gref said all tenders planned for this year under the federal program of the development of the Sochi resort for 2007-2014 have been held and nearly two months since the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Evaluation Commission visited Sochi certain dynamics have been achieved.

Six tenders have been held for designing electricity facilities, and blueprints of electricity sub-stations and power lines are being made, he said.

The motorways project between Sochi and prospective Olympic facilities has intensified, and an alternate route between Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana is under consideration, he said.

Gref said, “the program is gaining momentum and we are keeping to the schedule. We can complete the planned works on time or ahead of time”.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 General Director, has told Itar-Tass that Russia started building Olympic facilities in Sochi without waiting for the 2014 Winter Games host city selection. “The fact that blueprints of the sports facilities in Sochi have just been drawn and the construction has not started is a key advantage of Russia. We can use the best and most advanced technologies and hire the best architects for constructing a worthy Olympic infrastructure”.
