For the second year, La Fundacion Madrid Nuevo Siglo (The Foundation Madrid New Century) which analyzes the importance of tourism, infrastructure and environment, is organizing three conferences on the Olympics. The topics are tourism and the Olympics, infrastructure and transportation, and environment.
Madrid’s Mayor Jose Maria Alvarez said that the “Cultural Journey Olimpicas” was very useful for the city of Madrid in its bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
He added that if Madrid was chosen the Spanish candidate for the 2012 Games, it will have to compete with other cities around the world regarding culture, tourism, infrastructure and transportation.
The conferences will help Madrid during the four years of preparation for the 2012 Games, should it become Spain’s candidate, as well as what the legacy of the Games would be for the city.
Jose Luis Alvarez, president of the Foundation, explained that the object of the conferences is to learn from the experience of other cities that have hosted Olympic Games.
Madrid’s mayor said that Madrid is a very cosmopolitan city with five million visitors a year.
