Turin 2006 re-opened ticket sales February 10 after tickets for the first phase of sales topped 400,000. Tickets will now be sold on the basis of availability. Tickets for about 30 competitions will start in a few days after verification of how many tickets are still left. The men’s ice-hockey final is already sold out.
The Turin 2006 Olympic torch has arrived for the first time in Turin after a ceremony two weeks ago in Milan. On December 8 the torch will go to Rome and then travel through Italy’s provinces, carried by 10,000 torchbearers to the Opening Ceremony on February 10, 2006. There is now only one torch, but in May production will start on 12,000 more.
The Culture Olympics will feature more than 40 events, from visual arts to music, cinema and literature. TOROC Deputy Vice President Evelina Christillin said “the schedule includes all types of artistic disciplines and features participation by performers of the highest level for a series of unprecedented events”. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has described Turin’s Culture Olympics as “the best that have ever been organized”, said Christillin.
