Paris 2012 Outlines Games Legacy At SportAccord

On the last day of SportAccord, the annual meeting of the international Sports Federations being held in Berlin, Essar Gabriel, Deputy CEO of Paris 2012, presented the bid’s sport legacy for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, should Paris be selected host city.

The legacy is based on three pillars – a total commitment from the State and the local authorities towards the sporting movement reflected by a permanent investment in the building of sports infrastructures; an ambitious project to build six new structures, essential to high level professional sport in France; and a strong post-Olympic business plan which will enrich the Olympic movement without exposing the public authorities to the risk of “White Elephants”.

A Paris 2012 Games would ensure the construction of six upper-level infrastructures needed in France, an Aquatic Centre, a SuperDome, a Shooting Centre, a Velodrome and world-class facilities for Hockey, Baseball and Softball.

With this new major structure Paris 2012 says each of the 28 members of the Summer Olympic Sports International Federations would find, from 2012, first quality venues for the organization of their competitions, at all levels and in all categories.

Where no post-Olympic use was required, Paris 2012 says it would be using 13 temporary structures, including seven temporary Pavilions, enabling a post-Olympic legacy to be shared with the entire nation because of the pre-recycling of the Pavilions.
