News From 2014 Commonwealth Bid Cities

Nigeria’s President Olusegun Obasanjo is to unveil Abuja’s bid logo for the 2014 Commonwealth Games Wednesday, said Charles Chikezie, spokesman for the Sports Ministry.

He said that the unveiling of the logo by the president is an indication of the commitment of the federal government to ensure that the country wins the bid.

Mike Fennez, leader of a delegation that inspected facilities at the Abuja National Stadium recently, expressed confidence that Nigeria could win the bid based on the quality of the city’s facilities. He said that Nigeria can win the bid because of its successful hosting of the 8th All Africa Games in 2003.

Meanwhile Sebastian Coe, head of the London 2012 Olympic games, has given his backing to Glasgow’s bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Speaking at a civic dinner at Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery for the Society of Editors’ annual conference, Lord Coe also thanked Glasgow for its support for London’s successful 2012 Summer Olympic Bid.

Halifax Canada is the third city competing to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
