New Delhi Commonwealth Games “Safe”

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said Monday it was confident of staging a safe and smooth Commonwealth Games next year, and the shifting of cricket’s Indian Premier League (IPL) would not affect its hosting of the New Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.

IOA General Secretary Randhir Singh reportedly said IPL’s security issue arose because its dates clashed with the Lok Sabha elections in the country but there was nothing scheduled during the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He added the IOA has in place “the highest-level of security plans”.

He told PTI that security plans of the highest levels are in place to deliver a smooth and safe Games and the Delhi Police Department is working closely with central intelligence agencies to ensure the same. But Randhir did not elaborate on the security plan.
