London 2012 Launches Next Phase Of Bid Campaign

With the unveiling of a giant flag in Trafalgar Square Monday as part of the “parade of heroes” to celebrate the achievements of Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic medallists, London 2012 bid leaders will launch the next phase of their campaign to bring the 2012 Games to the city.

The flag, in London 2012 colours, will carry the logo “Make Britain Proud”. Athletes, sports stars and celebrities will be asked to sign the flag as a gesture of support, and the banner will then be taken around the country as part of a publicity campaign, building up to an opinion poll expected to be held by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in late November or early December.

London 2012 communications director Mike Lee said, “we are embarking on a new and crucial phase of our bid. The candidate file has been done and is heading off to the printers and with everybody still buoyed up by the success in Athens we want to build on that by promoting the bid nationally and internationally.

“Our research shows that by far the most powerful reason for people supporting the bid is national pride and the belief that the Games will help showcase Britain internationally.”
