Buenos Aires has unveiled state of the art, high-tech upgrades to its A-line subway train service, which should boost its bid for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
According to Buenos Aires 2018, the new train will result in vastly decreased travel times and reduced road congestion. Other new features include 45 new high-tech train cars, each benefitting from advanced, environmentally friendly air conditioning technology and security cameras.
The new cars will also provide information for passengers via visual and audio facilities and there will be increased capacity with 36 seats per car and standing room for up to 100 people.
Buenos Aires also plans to purchase another 105 new subway train cars that is part of a broader transport modernization plan which will involve updating all six subway lines in the city.
Francisco Irarrazaval, Buenos Aires Under-Secretary of Sport and Chief Executive of the Buenos Aires 2018 bid committee said, “the new transport upgrades unveiled today are a significant boost to the Buenos Aires bid. If Buenos Aires has the honour of hosting the YOG in 2018, these transportation improvements, combined with our efficient, compact and ‘fan-friendly’ Games plan, will also ensure fast and convenient access for all YOG spectators travelling around the city”.
