European Athletics, the Russian Athletics Federation, and city of Moscow authorities have agreed that Moscow will be the venue for the qualification tournament for the 2010 Singapore Youth Games.
Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov said, “I am extremely happy and honoured that the city of Moscow will be hosting such an important event where the best young athletes in Europe can come together to follow their dreams of competing in such a prestigious competition as the Youth Olympic Games”.
The European Olympic Youth Trials will take place May 21-23, 2010.
Hansjorg Wirz, President of European Athletics said, “we believe Moscow will put on a fantastic competition and I am looking forward to seeing the best of Europe’s youth athletes competing for a place in the Youth Olympic Games”.
Valentin Balakhnichev, Russian Athletics Federation President, said, “Russia is one of the powerhouses of European athletics and our youth program is very important to us. We are pleased we can showcase the best of your young talent in our capital city”.
Meanwhile the African Olympic Youth Trials take place the end of April and in May; the North American and South American trials are in May; the Asia trials take place in Singapore in May; and the Oceania trials will be in either Sydney or Brisbane in March.
The 2010 Singapore Youth Games are August 14-26, 2010.
