For the first time in Olympic history, the Singapore 2010 Youth Games Opening and Closing ceremonies will be held on the waterfront on the world’s largest floating state, with a city skyline as the backdrop.
The Games theme is “Blazing the Trail”, and according to a press release the ceremonies will feature several novel elements that will add on to the rich Olympic tradition and will focus on the young Olympians and their hopes for the future.
The story behind the Opening Ceremony illustrates the parallels between Singapore and the young Olympians – their struggles, hopes and dreams. The press release says it celebrates Singapore’s origins and diversity, and offers a glimpse of the nations hopes for the future, drawing on all that Singapore has to offer in terms of art, culture and expertise.
The athletes’ achievements will be celebrated in the Closing Ceremony where their lasting friendships will be honoured through the recollections of their Olympic journey in Singapore.
The Singapore 2010 Youth Games will be held August 14-26.
