United States Won’t Bid For 2018 Winter Games

Although Denver and Reno-Lake Tahoe had expressed an interest in bidding for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, the Associated Press reports the United States won’t be bidding.

The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) has reportedly long made it clear that no American city was in the running. According to the Associated Press the USOC did an exhaustive yearlong review before selecting Chicago as its official candidate for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is announcing the 2016 host city on October 2 and applications for the 2018 Games are due by the middle of that month.

Jim Scherr, USOC CEO, said Wednesday, “we would have to have a shorter turnaround because of the deadline for submission of candidates for the 2018 Games. We really wouldn’t have an opportunity to regear and do a domestic process”.
