The PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games bid committee signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with 16 companies to enhance the image of PyeongChang and the brands of 80 companies under the program “Best of Korea”, ahead of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) inspection of the city’s bid next week.
The idea is designed to offer convenience to visitors to the region should PyeongChang win the bid for the 2018 Winter Games.
According to the Korea Times the entertainment and hospitality amenities will include restaurants, cultural attractions and supermarkets.
Cho Yang-ho, chairman of PyeongChang 2018 said, “I am delighted that our ‘Best of Korea’ plan is taking shape, and I would like to thank all the organizations and individuals that have pledged to participate in this exciting initiative. The ‘Best of Korea’ program will provide all visitors to Korea for the Winter Games with opportunities to experience the magic and intimacy of the mountains combined with various quality cultural and entertainment experiences – the best of both worlds – all within the special Olympic Winter Games city”.
Those participating companies and brands include major hotels such as The Shilla, Lotte Hotel and Hyatt Regency Incheon that will open restaurants.
SPC’s Paris Baguette and Cafe Pascucci will open stores in the region, as will retail brands like GS and Lotte Duty Free, reports the Korea Times.
Also, theatres will be established by the country’s leading cultural centres – Sejong Centre for Performing Arts and Seoul Arts Center. Korean art and performances including “Nanta” and “Jump” will be staged.
