PyeongChang 2018 Events Support Bid

Two proposed venues of PyeongChang’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games were the location of events held on the weekend, as participants and spectators showed their support for the city’s bid.

Three hundred participants took part in a 10 kilometre run Sunday around the Alpensia Resort. The resort is one of the principal Olympic clusters in the bid’s Games Plan and would be the location of the main Olympic Village, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and several competition venues such as Cross Country and Biathlon.

A Cross Country Challenger MTB (mountain bike) race with more than 1,200 participants and spectators attending the event was held in Jungbong. The race spanned a 36.8 kilometre course in Jungbong, the proposed venue for Alpine Skiing in PyeongChang’s bid.

Yang Ho Cho, Chairman and CEO of PyeongChang 2018 said, “the sporting events held across PyeongChang this weekend highlight our passion for sport, no matter what season it is. As part of our bid for the 2018 Winter Games, we aim to show that our venues and facilities are multi-purpose and can be enjoyed by people all year round”.
