New Poll Shows Higher Public Support For PyeongChang 2018

A new poll conducted by a Gangwon regional newspaper, the Gangwon Ilbo, shows that 95.2 per cent of respondents surveyed in the province support PyeongChang’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

This is an increase over the 93 per cent of regional residents who pledged their support for the bid in a 2009 poll.

The new poll was conducted by telephone over four days from December 28 to 31, 2010. Five hundred residents living in Gangwon Province took part in the poll.

Also, a host of private companies are joining together to help promote PyeongChang’s bid across the country said a press release. The Council of Private Organisations for PyeongChang’s 2018 bid is a new national committee with members that represent a broad range of Korean industries from broadcasting to transport.

Yang Ho Cho, PyeongChang 2018 Chairman and CEO said, “it is wonderful to hear that PyeongChang’s bid for the 2018 Winter Games is supported by so many people in Gangwon Province and across the country.

“Korean people would be honoured to welcome the Olympic Family and winter sports fans from around the world to enjoy the Winter Games, and this amazing level of public support provides great encouragement as our campaign heads to the 2018 host city decision in July”.
