New Zealand Interested In 2018 Commonwealth Games Bid

A report from Radio New Zealand says that Auckland and Christchurch are being considered as possible venues to bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee has requested the government’s opinion on a possible bid. Both cities have already hosted the Games – Christchurch in 1974 and Auckland in 1990.

The application deadline isn’t until 2010 with the winner being declared in 2011 but competitors are already getting prepared. Abuja, Nigeria says they may be bidding for 2018 after losing their 2014 bid to Glasgow Scotland. Canberra, Australia has reported interest in bidding for the 2022 edition of the Games.

Delhi, India will be hosting the next Commonwealth Games in 2010.
