Munich’s 2018 Bid “Strong” – IOC President

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge told a German newspaper Sunday that Munich’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games was “strong”.

He said, “naturally, I am very pleased to have such a strong and competent bid from Munich in a strong sporting nation such as Germany. Germany has a good vision, and it learned from the failure of Leipzig and strengthened its bid”.

Germany lost its bids for the 2000 and 2012 Olympic Games when Berlin and Leipzig were the German candidate cities. But Rogge said that Munich would not be disadvantaged by not being a capital city. He said, “we look at the cities with potential, that radiate enthusiasm – much like Munich”.
