The Winter Sport Festival in Munich this weekend is expected to attract 20,000 visitors from across Bavaria and showcase Munich’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
Visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to try out every sport on the Winter Games program free at master-classes run by Olympic and Paralympic heroes past and present.
Highlight of the weekend will be Saturday night’s exhibition match between local top-flight ice hockey side EHC Munich and the Munich 2018 Winter Stars.
Jurgen Buhl, managing director of Munich 2018 said, “at the Winter Sport Festival, Munich 2018 will bring an inclusive showcase of all the sports on the Olympic and Paaralympic Winter Games program right into the heart of the city. We will give a foretaste of the unforgettable Festival of Friendship atmosphere that would envelop the Winter Games should they come to Munich in 2018. The opportunity for young visitors to have their final winter sports experience alongside the legends of 1976 demonstrates Munich 2018’s commitment to spreading the passion and values of the Olympic Movement to the next generation – maybe there will be a 2018 Olympic champion among them”.
