Although the Green party’s national leadership voted last weekend not to back Munich’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, The Associated Press reports the Munich chapter of the Greens remains firmly committed to the bid.
The party’s representatives on the city council have backed the bid and said Monday they remain behind it.
Munich Greens leaders Siegfried Benker and Lydia Dietrich said, “we remain convinced that the Olympic bid offers a great opportunity for the development of our city, especially in the ecological aspect”.
Munich is competing against Annecy and PyeongChang for the right to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee will select the host city in Durban, South Africa on July 6, 2011.
