The Beko Basketball Bundesliga, Germany’s national basketball championships, was unveiled as a new “Friend of the Bid”. It’s the latest in a series of alliances Munich 2018 has made with German sports associations to ensure that a Munich 2018 Winter Olympic Games would be the most “athlete-friendly” in history.
A Munich 2018 press release says Beko BBL will play a very important role in boosting nationwide support for Munich’s 2018 bid. Munich 2018 says its bid is founded upon putting athletes first, with a concept geared towards guaranteeing the celebratory festival atmosphere that the world’s most important winter sports competition deserves.
Katerina Witt, Chair of Munich 2018 said, “we are delighted to be working with Beko BBL. It was great to see the eagerness they showed when offered the opportunity to contribute to creating a sustainable legacy for the region through sport. With our millions of passionate, knowledgeable sports fans, our long history of hosting international events, and our traditional Bavarian hospitality, we have the potential to stage an incredibly athlete-friendly Games. This new partnership, along with our other local and national sports partners, will help us realize this potential should we be awarded the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2018”.
