Munich’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games has had a setback following a report that the bid committee was told Friday there will be no government finance to help cover Munich’s bid.
Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere told the German Press Agency DPA that government support for the budget had never been foreseen.
Willy Bogner, head of Munich’s bid, had called for public funds to help meet a budget that had risen to $41.8 million.
Meanwhile farmers in the region who were refusing to make land available for the Games have received support from mountain climber Reinhold Messner who owns three mountain farms. He said the farmers had not been adequately involved in the planning.
