Ice Hockey Supports Munich 2018 Bid

The Munich and Garmish-Partenkirchen ice hockey clubs are supporting Munich’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. The SC Riessersee and EHC Munich in Bavaria are taking part in a derby Friday and 7,000 spectators will be there to cheer them on as well as learn about Munich’s 2018 bid.

Both teams will be wearing special Munich 2018 jerseys to demonstrate their support of the bid. The arena will be illuminated with the Munich 2018 bid emblem and information about the bid will be distributed to spectators.

Willy Bogner, CEO of Munich 2018, is pleased that ice hockey is supporting the bid. He said, “the Olympic application is a joint effort between Munich, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Konigssee”.

According to a press release should Munich host in 2018 the Games would be compact with short distances to all the venues. The ice sports would be held in Munich, snow sports in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the ice rink venue would be in Konigssee.

The Munich 2018 environmental concept would include an ecological Olympic village in Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and new standards for a natural and people-friendly Games, said the press release.
