Ice Hockey Supports Munich 2018 Bid

The organizing committee of the 2010 IIHF World Championships being held in Germany May 7-23 said it is supporting Munich’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games and will partner with Munich 2018 to use the IIHF Championships to promote the bid, and that Munich 2018 can learn from the experience of the organizing committee.

Willy Bogner, head of Munich 2018 said, “through the Ice Hockey World Cup we have a chance to show” that Germany has a passion for winter sports and that the fans love ice hockey. He added that cooperating with the ice hockey World Cup Championship is a valuable connection.

Franz Reindl, Secretary General of the 2010 IIHF World Championship, underlined the importance of cooperating. He said, “during the 56 games of the 2010 IIHF World Championship many people look around the world to Germany, and also many personalities of world sport will be our guest. Therefore we want to use the World Cup together with Munich 2018 to make a perfect recommendation for Munich as an Olympic site”.
