Football Match Supports Munich 2018 Bid

Munich’s Allianz Arena hosted a season-opening football match Sunday attended by 30,000 spectators between FC Bayern Munich and a Winter stars team, to provide public and financial support to Munich’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Willy Bogner, CEO of Munich 2018, coached the team of Winter stars which included several Olympic and Paralympic champions.

According to a Munich 2018 press release the participants agreed that the result of the match was unimportant since the main objective was to show the unified support for Munich 2018 from all at FC Bayern Munich – “one of the world’s largest and most iconic clubs”.

Bogner said, “we are so fortunate to have such a strong relationship with our world famous, local club. As a sportsman, I am naturally competitive but today my team was really up against it! However we won in other ways as Munich 2018 has greatly benefitted from this incredible show of local fan support. In addition, the earnings from the match gate receipts will go towards the Munich 2018 bid campaign in the critical months ahead”.
