Ukraine Submits Bid For 2022 Winter Games At Deadline

Ukraine submitted its bid to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thursday, meeting the deadline for bids.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olexandr Vilkul said, “we applied for participation in the 2022 Olympic Games on November 14, which is the deadline date for bids”.

Ukraine wants to host the Games in the Carpathian Mountains in western Lviv region, which borders with Poland.

According to the bid, the $1 billion project would stage the Games in picturesque highland towns and villages.

Kiev hopes the successful bid would inject a new impetus into the development of tourism in the Carpathian Mountains, which would spur economic growth of the region.

The IOC will select the host city for the 2022 Winter Games July 31, 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
