Xinhua reports the Swiss Olympic Committee announced Friday that Switzerland will bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
The decision was made at a meeting where representatives from major Swiss sports associations voted overwhelmingly for Switzerland to bid, with 385 in favour and two abstentions.
Jorg Schild, President of the Swiss Olympic Committee, said after the meeting, “the representatives of Swiss sport have made it clear today that they are interested in the Olympic Winter Games in our country”.
However a Switzerland bid is conditional on Munich and Annecy losing their bids for the 2018 Winter Olympics as it would be unlikely that the Winter Games would go to Europe again as soon as 2022.
Switzerland had failed Winter Olympics bids in 1976, 2002 and 2006.
