Switzerland Changes From 2018 To 2022

For the past few years Switzerland announced it would be bidding for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games and last year Geneva announced it hoped to bid and would try to generate public support by opening a national debate on whether Switzerland should try to host the Olympics for the first time since 1948.

However last month Jorg Schild, Chairman of Swiss Olympic, said that there won’t be a Swiss candidacy for the 2018 Winter Games, but that Switzerland will instead bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

He said an application for the 2018 Winter Games would have had to be submitted in the next few months.

Schild said Switzerland will begin focussing on a 2022 Winter Games bid this summer.

There are four regions reportedly interested in representing Switzerland in its bid for the 2022 Games. They are Zurich, Geneva, Sion and Berne.
