Swedish news agency Tidningarnas Telegrambyra reports that Sweden may bid for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games and would use the same sites planned for the 2022 Games bid that was aborted in January 2014.
The report cites holding events in Stockholm and in the ski resort of Are.
In October officials said they regretted scrapping the 2022 bid given the changes to the bidding process being put in place by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the form of Agenda 2020. In December, IOC President Thomas Bach refused to reopen the 2022 race based on the new parameters.
Also in October a joint Norway-Sweden 2026 bid was proposed by a Norwegian sports organization.
The 2022 Winter Olympic Games will be awarded on July 31, with Almaty and Beijing being the only candidates. Application for the 2026 Games will be accepted in 2017 with a final decision being made in 2019.
