With two candidates competing to represent Spain in its bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, Alejandro Blanco, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, said he believes that the existence of the two candidates, Jaca-Zaragoza and Barcelona, demonstrates Spain’s interest in organizing the event and that Spain is a “sports power”.
The Barcelona Reporter reports Blanco said, “the fact that Spain has two nominations to host the Winter Olympics 2022 is positive. Competition is good and the fact that there are two candidates is not something new”, he said, recalling that in the past Jaca, Granada, Madrid and Seville struggled to represent Spain.
Blanco reportedly said the Aragonese candidacy is “serious” and added that a project is “feasible”, and “the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has been looking in Aragon for facilities and has a good mark. This is a feasible project”.
He said discussions about the two candidates will be “strict and serious” in all its interventions and that in organizing an event of this kind, one should make larger investments.
