Quebec Premier Jean Charest said Monday that Quebec City, Canada is considering a possible bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
He told a press conference at the 2010 Games in Vancouver “I’d like to tell you we have a dream in Quebec. We hope some day we will see the Winter Olympics in Quebec, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Quebec City, which is custom-made for the Winter Olympic Games. So I hope to see you in 2022”.
He added that Quebec City could count on his government’s support if it made a formal bid for the 2022 Winter Games, echoing Quebec City Mayor Regis Labeaume in wanting the city to have the proper infrastructure before putting forward an official bid, reports the Canadian Press.
He said, “we share the same vision. Mayor Labeaume and I are favourable to Quebec City submitting the candidacy. But if we’re not doing it right away it’s because we want to have all our ducks in a row so people can’t be against the idea. That’s why we’re being prudent”.
Charest said, “a working group will meet with organizers of Vancouver 2010. My opinion is that we launch this application because the city of Quebec is tailored to accommodate the Winter Olympics”.
